This rare Louis Vuitton Graffiti Stephen Sprouse Speedy 30 was released in 2001 and it’s the first Speedy limited edition.
Most Speedy limited editions are related to Marc Jacobs's name. Jacobs was a creative director in Louis Vuitton from 1997 to 2014. He determined the design of Louis Vuitton bags into the new century.
In search of new ideas, Jacobs invited Stephen Sprouse to collaborate on the new collection in 2000. Sprouse was an artist and fashion designer who worked with major celebrities in the 1980s – from Blondie to Duran Duran. His designs mixed the glamour and punk style; graffiti was his signature print. The print also symbolized pop style at that time.
In this limited edition “Louis Vuitton PARIS” letters were painted in khaki/white over the house’s traditional brown-on -brown monogram canvas. Though it would be much more cost-effective to have this pattern printed, it was painted as a homage to the art and fashion. The bag became a huge hit. It was also released with a plain background for some VIP customers.
“For me, this monogram graffiti was the first milestone of our permanent reinvention of our history.” – said Yves Carcelle, Louis Vuitton CEO.
This bag was released in two colors, green and silver.
