How to Spot a Fake Louis Vuitton Zippy Wallet

Now today I have two Zippy Vernis wallets and one of them is real, another is a cheap fake. Can you tell which is real and which is fake and why?

Comparing the Leather

If you take a look at the leather, you'll notice that there's a little difference. Not only cause the dark wallet is more used, but there's also more. If you look a little closer at the elements, the flower embossing differs: on the dark wallet the petals are larger and the center of the flower is smaller than on the red Zippy.

You can also spot the differences in leather structure. Somehow the red leather also appears to be smooth and nice and the darker leather is scratched and messy. Is that because the wallet is more used?

Authenticating LV Wallet Hardware

Can you spot the difference?

We see that maroon wallet hardware is a little sloppier than the hardware on the red wallet. It also has more scratches on the zipper puller and the gold color is scratched away easily.

Louis Vuitton's hardware loses the gold sheen eventually. However, this surface layer is not scratched away easily like that.

You'll also notice than the shape of the zipper runner is different. Actually both are typical for Louis Vuitton items.

Authenticating the Heat Stamp

At first, both stamps look good. However, if you're attentive, you'll notice that PARIS font is different. You can easily notice that by looking at the R in PARIS.

This is a pretty good replica though. Unless you take time to thoroughly compare it with an authentic item, it looks exceedingly real.

Authenticating the Date Code

Here's the most exciting part. Date codes. Both date codes are legit. If you decipher a fake date code, it'll say that the item was made in France on the 12th week of 2009, which is normal for a Zippy. However, the font here is the giveaway.
