Are Louis Vuitton Bags Cheaper In Europe? (2020 Update)

Where Are Louis Vuitton Handbags The Cheapest?

Last update: 4/10/2020

If you are ready to buy a Louis Vuitton bag at the boutique, this article might help you to save hundreds of dollars when purchasing your Louis Vuitton item. Be a smart shopper!

Now we know that Louis Vuitton bag prices differ from country to country. I took the most popular models and compared the prices on local websites for the USA, Europe, Japan, China, and Russia.

Our comparison currency will be USD, so we assume that you are in the US looking to either buy a luxury Louis Vuitton bag either at home or in the regions mentioned.

There will be some conversion commissions as well so that's not the final price but you can refer to these prices as an overall picture.

I am a bit skeptical about 20% VAT refund in the UK, cause when I shopped in Europe on papers the refund should've been 11% but the actual amount with all the conversions was about 6% but I guess it really depends on how you want to get the refund (airport in cash or to a credit card).

That's why I did not calculate the final prices and listed the VAT amounts as a reference.

Here are the conversion rates actual at the moment (10/10/2019).

  • EUR to USD 1,1
  • GBP to USD 1,23
  • YEN to USD 0,093

Where Are New Louis Vuitton Bags the Cheapest?

If two years ago when I first wrote this article, UK was a clear winner offering an opportunity to score a bag with 20-25% discount from the US retail price, now with the latest price increases all EU prices are more or less the same. Depending on the price of the bag you can save up to $1,000 if you buy a bag in Europe.

Please be aware that the EU has the same pricing policy so the price is exactly the same in France, Spain or Italy. What's different is your VAT refund but the difference is not huge (11% vs 13%, for instance).

If your vacation is already booked in Europe, why not bring home these beauties at a reduced price? The more is the bag, the better is the refund :)

And I do understand Asian people who take an extra suitcase for the Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Hermes bags when visiting Europe! Look at the price difference for Artsy Empreinte, it's more than a thousand euro! What a nice discount!

UK VAT is 20% so this is what your are discounted if you are an overseas visitor purchasing. In most of the above you have referenced 10% which is incorrect. It’s been 20% for like 20years.
