Louis Vuitton became famous over 150 years ago as a trunk manufacturer. In 1930s the fashion house has expanded their travel trunk portfolio with women handbags. In the end of 20th century the fashion house added clothes and other accessories to their stores, including sunglasses.

Do All Louis Vuitton Sunglasses Have Serial Numbers?
Yes.
You’ll find two types of serial numbers on Louis Vuitton sunglasses. One will start with ‘Z’, for instance, Z2109. It’s located on the inner side of the arm. Another serial is less visible (in most cases it’s E103 or something similar).
Louis Vuitton sunglasses may also have date codes. Read more below and don't forget to check out our Full Guide on Louis Vuitton Date Codes with over 500 examples.
Where are Louis Vuitton Sunglasses made?
Louis Vuitton sunglasses are typically made in Italy. On one of the arms you’ll find an inscription “made in Italy”.
What is size W and E with regards to Louis Vuitton sunglasses?
When selecting the sunglasses, pay attention to the sizing on the Louis Vuitton website. There are two sizes, E and W. E stands for Eastern frame (also referred to as Asian frame). These glasses are designed for those with a flatter nose bridge and or "flatter face". W stands for western frame are those with high bridge noses.
How to Clean Louis Vuitton Sunglasses?
Generally, the rules are the same as with any other brand. Store your sunglasses in the cases to avoid damage. Use the cotton cloth that comes with sunglasses to prevent scratching especially if your sunglasses have logos over the lenses (this layer can easily be scratched).
Do Louis Vuitton Sunglasses Have Date Codes?
Yes and no.
As for discontinued sunglasses, they only have serials indicating the style (for instance, Z1165W for The Millionnaires sunglasses). A pair will also have another combination of letters and digits, which is 4 symbols only (like E101). It’s not a date code as it has another format.
2015-2021. Newer shade styles, like The Party, are different. They have a serial number Z0924U. They also have a regular date code (two letters and 4 digits).
2021-onwards. Louis Vuitton discontinued date codes so don’t be surprised if you purchase a pair which doesn’t have a date code.
You won't be able to do a Louis Vuitton serial number check for sunglasses just because it has a different format.
What Louis Vuitton Sunglasses Do I Buy?
While purchasing the Louis Vuitton sunglasses, pay attention to the following factors.UV protection
It is worth exploring Louis Vuitton’s website to check if the UV protection of the lenses you lo is right for you. There are two basic factors, transmittance (how transparent are the sunglasses) and filter category (how much light is filtered out).
Note that in each case the protection is different. If the lenses transparency is 40-100% and filter category is 0-2, the pair won’t provide enough protection from sunlight and is for cosmetic use only. To ensure high protection against sun glare, you’ll need at least 8-18% transmittance and filter category 3.
Shape
It’s been said many times that aviators look good on everyone. You might still want something more unique like cat eye shape.
Size
There are two sunglasses sizes, E and W. E stands for Eastern frame (also referred to as Asian frame). These glasses are designed for those with a flatter nose bridge and or "flatter face". W stands for western frame are those with high bridge noses.
Are Louis Vuitton Sunglasses Worth It?
If you’re looking for sunglasses for your vacation, then probably spending $800 on a pair of sunglasses is probably too much. However, having an iconic accessory for spring and summer might be good if that’s something that you like.
Wondering How to Tell if Louis Vuitton Sunglasses Are Real? Check Louis Vuitton Sunglasses Authenticity
Checking authenticity of Louis Vuitton sunglasses is tricky. The arms and lenses are easy to copy and it can be extremely hard to tell if LV sunglasses are real. We highly recommend seeking professional assistance in confirming the authenticity of sunglasses if you’re buying secondhand. The differences are so tiny that it’s better to be safe than sorry.
At Bagaholic, we specialize in authenticating sunglasses. We’ve been selling sunglasses in our store for over 5 years and are familiar with all the subtle differences between authentic sunglasses and replicas.
However, here are a few tips that will allow you to stay away from the scammers trying to sell fake sunglasses.
- Examine the packaging
Most often, preowned sunglasses are being sold in a case. Authentic Louis Vuitton cases are either dark brown (round) or dark blue (looking like a trunk).
- Check the serial number
If you’re purchasing a specific style, let’s say Louis Vuitton sunglasses with logo on lenses, check its style serial. It must correspond to the style you’re purchasing.
- Check the overall quality
When you receive your sunglasses, check the quality. Authentic Louis Vuitton sunglasses are lightweight. The lenses are lightweight too resembling plastic more than glass.
