One of our customers was buying a breathtaking pink Chevron Caviar purse. The seller has provided the following pictures. What do you think of the purse? Is it authentic?
To be able to authenticate a Chanel bag, we generally require the full set of pictures, which includes:
- front
- back
- sides
- inside
- all hardware elements and engravings
- all made in elements
- a clear picture of a serial number
Unfortunately, as the full set of pictures was not available, thus, the conclusion will be based on the available pictures. Here's what we noticed analyzing these pictures.
‘Made In’ Stamp
Chanel has been using the same signature font for dozens of years. Thus, the heat stamp font must be consistent with authentic items. This Is by far the most important factor in authenticating an item as it’s one of the most difficult things to replicate.
The stamp itself looks good.
However, after a thorough investigation, it seems that the picture of the heat stamp was stolen from another website, called The Purse Affair. The listed purse is indeed authentic. Having said that, we know the the pictures come from the seller. Could it be that the seller is selling the same purse?
Chances are it can. The two stamps are identical, while other pictures from the item in question are not related to the item listed on this website. However, what alarmed us in this case is that only one picture has been borrowed. Why borrow just one?
Another discrepancy is that item listed on the website has a 30 series, which is not consistent with the serial number indicated on the item in question (27xxxxxx series).
There are obviously red flags with the item’s heat stamp.
Authenticity card
The authenticity card reads ‘27238816’. However, there’s an important point when it comes to the background. The Chanel handbag on the background is not the handbag in question, as it’s a purse in quilted stitching, not chevron.
Serial number
It’s impossible to fully verify the serial number based on the pictures provided. However, there are a few things to mention.
The first digit seems to be 3, and the 30xxxxxx series is consistent with the item’s color. On the contrary, the serial on the authenticity card belongs to 27xxxxxx.
In addition, the last two digits seem to be 22, which is not consistent with the authenticity card.
Conclusion
As many red flags were found during the examination, based on the pictures provided, in our opinion an item with serial number xxxxxxxx (not visible on the actual item) is NOT AUTHENTIC. Moreover, we highly recommended NOT to purchase this item as it looks like a scam.
Authenticating by pictures definitely has its advantages. For one, you don't have to go anywhere to check an item you're going to buy. Yet additionally you need to check never the pictures for not only whether they're from an authentic item.
