Buy preloved

Why buy preloved? Let me share an example. Neverfull is the most popular Louis Vuitton bag. When it was first released in 2007, it was $645 only. Let's suppose you bought a purse in 2007 as an investment piece and never used it. In 2022, a Neverfull retails for $2,030. That being said, you can definitely sell it for more that you spent, namely, for around $1,200-$1,300.

Seems a pretty good deal, right? Not exactly. While you have your 100% ROI, what you also know is that the cost of money is not the same anymore. With exceedingly high inflation and rising prices, it's barely beating the inflation.

So how do you invest in luxury handbags? By buying preloved. You can find any designer item at almost any price if you keep looking and exploring your options. the lowest I've seen was $300 for a Neverfull in good condition. I resold it in a month for $700. Not a bad investment at all.

If you're purchasing a designer bag in store, unless it's something rare and not available to the mass buyers, it most probably won't be a good investment. Yes, Hermes is an exclusion.

Buy bags in good condition

Although you may find enticing deals for items in fair condition, I highly recommend not falling for them.

Why?

Most people buy handbags from resellers like you and me because they want to enjoy this item. How are they gonna enjoy their new purse if they need to repair the zipper, replace the inside lining and remove color transfer?

90% of people don't know a specific leather surgeon who can repair their item, which means they will have to do the research.

In a nutshell, unless you can do these specific repair by yourself, don't buy broken items or items in fair condition.

Buy beautiful bags

There are undoubtedly specific items that prove to be great investments in the long run. Some of them seem very unassuming at first sight so it's hard to tell.

Here's another general rule that will help you to find the right bag to invest in. If you see a beautiful item, chances are someone will like it too. Do not overcomplicate it.

Look for good deals

Sometimes reselling is just about getting a good deal. Great deals are at the heart of every reselling business. When you engage in reselling on a full time basis, you become a hunter. Make sure you're getting a good deal and that you're the first one in line when you find one. If that's what inspires and excites you, this is a job for you.

Any time I'm telling someone that I invest in luxury handbags, people look at me skeptically. I don't judge it. I actually get it. Generally, people invest in stock market, bonds, ETFs, real estate, but they don't invest in luxury handbags.

Buying a handbag for investment is still seen as something strange and unknown to the public.

Can you make good profits on luxury handbags? Certainly. And I'll be very direct with you: that probably won't happen right away. You'll need time to find your groove, yet once you find it, you'll be amazed to see the results.

Before we jump to specific items that have high ROI, here's something you need to know.

Chanel isn't cheap. If you'd like to pursue bags from this brand, have a budget of at least a few thousand. If that seems too much, you can think of Chanel jewelry, which is more affordable in Chanel bag and is also one of the best luxury investment pieces. Prices for Chanel jewelry range from $200 to several thousands.

Chanel Classic bags [$4,000-$10,000]
