How to Spot a Fake Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM

I'm Anastasiya. I buy and sell bags all the time. I own a Neverfull that I use daily. This time I purchased another Monogram Canvas Neverfull MM to sell. As soon as I opened the package, something didn't seem right about this bag.

Neverfull is one of the most popular Louis Vuitton bags. You get to see a lot of them on the streets. Consequently, it's one of the most counterfeited styles. I heard Neverfull replicas are very close to a real purse but I've never seen one in person.

Real vs Fake Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM Comparison

Here are two Neverfulls. One of them was manufactured by Louis Vuitton, the other one is from an unknown Chinese factory.

1. Leather and Canvas

These Neverfulls do look very good. Both have patina and as you may notice the quality doesn't differ a lot. Neither of these Neverfulls looks like a cheap fake with wrong font or plastic leather.

2. Lining

If you're observant, you can see the differences here. On the left bag, the zipper is brown, on the right one, it's beige. The lining color is also different but let's say that's because one of the bags is more used than the other.

Does the zipper color mean anything straight away? Actually no. Neverfull had a lot of variations and it would be normal to see that in 2014 they used dark zippers and they switched to light zippers. Anyway, both of them still look nice.

3. Hardware

Most parts of the hardware do look good. The stitching is also very consistent.

As I was examining the bag, something caught my eye. The font on the metal bucket is different. While the upper piece of hardware looks like authentic Louis Vuitton font, the lower one looks much cheaper.

Now the upper clasp near the opening of the bag also looks different. Can you spot the difference in stitching?

Was your guess correct or did you change your mind? Are you still sure that one of the bags is fake?

Luckily, I was able to get my money back from the seller. However, this fake Neverfull served as an example for many people who would love to learn how to authenticate.

Let's start over and compare both bags once again. Were there any dead giveaways?

How to tell if a Louis Vuitton Neverfull is real or fake? (even if you don't have one at home to compare it with?)

As you just witnessed, sometimes it's very hard to spot a fake bag even if you have this bag in your hands.

1. Examine the bag. It should be lightweight, the leather should look thin and modern.

The pics don't reflect the fact that the fake was heavier. The leather looked luxurious but it was a bit thicker than on an authentic Neverfull. If you don't have a Neverfull to compare with, just go to the store and see the authentic bag. Try it on your shoulder so that you knew what it feels like.

2. Examine the inside. An authentic Louis Vuitton Neverfull in Monogram Canvas has a brown zipper.

Pay attention to the color of the pocket zipper.

3. Examine the glazing. Red glazing is a big red flag.

An authentic Louis Vuitton bag almost never has this red glazing. It fades to brown/deep red with time. The layer of this glazing is also very thin.

4. Examine all pieces of hardware, even the smallest ones

There's a dead giveaway: if the stitching on the upper clasp goes down to the hardware, the bag is a replica.

Pay attention to the tiniest details. I never thought this metal pin would be a dead giveaway but it is: you can clearly see that the font is different.

5. Examine the heat stamp.

Even if the font seems right, don't believe your eyes. I've seen a lot of heat stamps on mirror replicas and they look just the same as authentic heat stamps. The counterfeiters know the font very well now.

6. Examine the date code.

Sometimes date codes are too good to be true. Remember that the date code is not the only indicator of authenticity. It can be legit and the bag can still be fake.

7. Always authenticate the item if you're not sure.
