How to Get Started Cleaning The Inside of a Louis Vuitton Bag
There is no product that will treat all kinds of stains, so to get started, look at the inside of you purse and examine the stains that are there.
Most Common Types of Stains
There's no product that treats all kinds of stains. The key to effectively removing a stain or a mark is knowing what's it from. The better you know the source, the wiser is you cleaning product choice.
The most typical stains that we've see while cleaning the inside of luxury handbags include:
- Dust and grease from regular use
- Ink marks
- Cosmetics marks
- Water/coffee/yoghurt stains
- Nail polish stains
If most of your marks are stains form regular use, you may use the same products we did.
What You'll Need
Here are some items that you might wanna look for before we'll get down to cleaning your beautiful purse. At least, that's what we used during the cleaning process.
Scrub brush
If you bought a used purse that is not that pretty inside, you'll need a scrub brush. This brush is suitable for removing general dust and dirt from the fabric inside lining. Be very gentle though and use it on a targeted spots to remove superficial waste, such as gum. Do not scrub all the inside as it may age it a lot.
For instance, Amazer Scrub Brush Comfort Grip removes superficial dirt really well.
Toothbrush
An ordinary toothbrush can help you to clean the inside of your purse in multiple ways. You can use a hard-bristled toothbrush to remove hair, dirt and superficial waste and a soft-bristle one later to clean the purse.
Hair Spray (Extra Hold)
If you are worried and don’t know how to clean an ugly ink stain from your Louis Vuitton bag, here is one of the best methods to make it invisible or completely remove it.
Spray the tip of a cotton swab with any hairspray. Once you apply the hair spray to a stain, take a cotton disk and pinch the ink away upwards.
Repeat a few times accordingly.
If the hairspray does not remove the mark completely, apply any stain remover.
Stain remover
Any stain remover uses more or less same ingredients. For this tutorial I used Vanish Carpet Spray and Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover. If you manage to find one with the same brush, get it! It's my favorite brush to clean the inside of the bag.
Foam Pump
To safely clean the lining, you'll need a foam pump dispenser. You can select among many on Amazon. This is the most crucial thing when it comes to items with cowhide leather, and here's why.
How to Clean a Louis Vuitton Bag Inside (Fabric)
Fabric is one of the most popular inside lining of a Louis Vuitton purse. It's a beige sturdy material with a striped print, which is used on such iconic handbags as Neverfull or old-style Delightful with zippers, as well as empreinte lining.
Most handbags with this type of inside lining have vachetta trims and inside parts, for instance, heat stamp. This poses a huge issue while cleaning the purse, since you have to be careful and avoid using excessive water. Once you apply too much water, it'll just leave a stain on vachetta (and if you moisturize all vachetta parts, it'll become sturdier and more prone to cracks. You don't want that.
So considering the challenges, how do you clean Louis Vuitton fabric lining?
A Step-By-Step Guide To Cleaning Your Purse's Inside Lining
Now that you have prepared everything, put your gloves on and let's do a total makeover of your Louis Vuitton purse.
Step 1. Turn the bag inside out
It this way, you'll have easy access to spots that are not available for cleaning.
Step 2. Remove the dust
Use a scrub brush or toothbrush to get rid of the superficial dust.
Your handbag collects a lot of pieces from the outside that we don't usually notice. Unless you're using an organizer on a daily basis, you'll find a lot of dirt around the bottom trim. We need to take care of it before we start washing.
Step 3. Wash the bottom
The bottom is usually the dirtiest part, that's why it's advisable to start here. Use a pump to create some foam or if you're more adventurous, wash it. Use a shower on bottom only, don't let excessive water approach handles.
Step 3. Clean the rest with foam
For the first round, our goal to apply foam on the bag. We're using foam to make the fabric wet but not too wet for the vachetta parks to soak the water.
I prefer using a toothbrush because I can control the amount of water. I also recommend using a towel if the purse gets too wet.
After cleaning, rinse with shower and dry with a towel immediately.
You can repeat this stage several times.
Step 4. Get wet!
If you let the purse dry like this, the border between wet and dry parts will become visible. That's why we need to get rid of it. To do that, use a toothbrush and apply foam in limited quantities to dry areas.
Now that the inside lining is wet, we can do the final part - get rid of the stains.
Step 5. Remove the stains
Apply hair spray or other products to stains. For instance, on my Neverfull's interior there were red stains, presumably from cosmetics. I used regular soap and as I applied it, it just went away.
Unfortunately, that day I didn't have any hair spray to remove the ink marks, but I've done it before and it works, you can check our pictures above.
How to Get Rid Of Smoke Odor
Bought a luxury purse with the smoke odor that you can't stand? We get you! While it may be hard to remove, there are a few ways that you can try.
To get rid of smoke odor or others unpleasant odors will help some methods.
- You can put coffee beans in a jar and put it inside the bag for some time.
- Also, you can store your bag in a ventilated place so that the smell goes away.
- If all those methods don’t help, gently wash the bag lining, preventing the water from spreading, and let it dry.
